Volume of God’s Thoughts

Lord, the volume of Your

Thoughts toward me is immeasurable.*

Foolishly, I sometimes think You’re

Like a giant corporation’s busy CEO

With so many meetings to chair

Money to make, deals to decide

Staff to hire, dismiss—tasks

Demanding Your stressed attention,

And that you never get a break…until

Your annual vacation, when my

Unscheduled crisis is certain to arise ~

But it’s merely a fear-based image

Painted early on this young child’s heart

Whose needs went unnoticed, neglected.

I briefly forget that You hold me

In the palm of Your strong, powerful hand;

That I’m engraved on Your heart

Where You scoop me up and hide me

Beneath Your great wings when

You see I’m in distress.

You neither slumber nor sleep,

Aware of my troubled mind—

Ever guarding, guiding me with Your eye.

Keenly attuned to all that concerns my life

You go ahead of me when day awakes,

To make my way straight, secure.

Every second—soft or loud—that ticks each hour, 24/7,

Your Presence is within me, and surrounding me.

Today I feel “rocky”, but You are my ROCK

High above the restless waves below—

Waters which shall not consume me

For their volume cannot begin to match

That of Your relentlessly watchful love.

I can trust Your grace, mercies,

Protection and abundant provision

Which endlessly overflow the pitcher of

Living Water You pour onto me ~

Thank You, Abba Father

  1. You have it exactly. “I briefly forget that You hold me

    In the palm of Your strong, powerful hand;

That I’m engraved on Your heart” This is the wonder of it. Beautiful.
