Woman of passion’s blood, despair;

Heart beaten, torn by wolves

Who drool nectarine liqueur—

Her soul often hangs ragged, wraithlike

From solitary scaffold invisible.

Seeking seclusion, at last she’s

Found it behind locked door.

More self-aware than many, she’s

Learned to shrug off mimeomia.

What does it matter anymore?

In her cloistered rooms

Of blue and rose, sparkling

Treasures from the sea—

Smooth, and spiny—surround her.

Once, a lifetime ago,

Her poetry was willowy as a

Romantic reed bruised by

Gentle river’s grief, and draped

Prettily at windows, in wardrobe.

Now the words fall nutty to the page—

Some days hard almonds, others soft cashews;

Ever genuine, authentic in flavor.

She watches twilight sky

For purpling clouds and

Tissue-thin moon of silvered silk.

Thankful, thankful she is that

If nothing else is right and just

In her world, she herself

Has been made righteous,

Covered in the Blood of Christ…

With vindication waiting in Holy Eternity.

  1. wow – here I am playing quick reading and comment catch-up and here you are, already done with the wordle 🙂

    This is a great piece – and it really tells a very interesting story – I especially like how it begins and builds and then the flow is incredible; the particular way you’ve chosen very specific words is highly creative and unique – and definitely a surprise – but it works so well!

    this entire section is the heart of such incredible writing – and it just works so well with what has come before and what follows – this is the “arc” point – and how descriptive and yet it leaves just enough mystery to linger in the mind and on the lips – it’s full and rich – delicious! (and I don’t mean this in any disrespectful way – it’s sensual and sensuous – which is an interesting complexity to the scene you have painted) – truly wonderful!
