ABOUT GOD’S CHAIR

In the beginning, “God’s Chair” was a hand-me-down blue upholstered recliner in my apartment.  I always imagined God sitting there, His Presence as real as any guest who unknowingly sat in His lap when they visited.  Though that chair moved on to grace another home, the Living God remains a vital Presence in my rooms.

He is not buried in the Bible, but rather lives as the Creator and Father; the Word made flesh in His Son, Jesus Christ; and the Holy Spirit who guides and comforts.  He is Bread and Light, Truth, Love—the nurturing sustenance, The Way.   He’s my Lord and Savior, Redeemer of everything in my life.

I’m a non-denominational, Bible Christian.  My faith in God is not a magic wand.  Past 60, I know that faith takes effort—like a muscle, it requires time and energy to keep it in peak condition.  The Bible is not a harsh “rule book”—it’s an adventure story about God and the folks He created to have a loving, beneficially-disciplined relationship with Him.  The people within its pages are no different from me and those I encounter—imperfect folks cherished by the Perfect God.  They struggled—I struggle.

When I struggle, I pray hard prayers—not a word of King James’ English in them. God hears and answers.  He brings me through the dark valleys, turns my sorrow into grateful joy—and then my prayers sound like a symphony of “thank You’s”.  I’m not a saint by any definition, and I’m not stuffy—I’m authentically eccentric (no angel wings, large clay feet).

I hope this blog will honor Him, and encourage others.  The tone of poems, prayers, devotions, quotations, music will reflect where I am on a given day—struggling, or victorious…because life on earth is the ultimate seesaw.  We’re up, or down—and often in the middle of “something”.  I hope readers will find something meaningful, balm for the heart—even some humor.

And perhaps you will come to know the Living GOD, the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

May HE bless you abundantly,

Jael Sook, June 2017

PS:  I’m still looking to replace His old chair with a new one that’s “just right” for Him!

  1. Hello, Jael. I’d like to send you a private message, but I can’t find your contact page. If you don’t have one, could you send me a message from my contact page that I can reply to? If you’d rather not, that’s okay. I just want to ask your advice about something. Thanks, Linda.
